U.S. Central Command said two U.S.-flagged merchant ships successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz.
On the 4th (local time), Central Command said on X (formerly Twitter), "U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers, after transiting the Strait of Hormuz to support the "Liberation Project," are now operating in the Arabian Gulf."
Central Command added, "The U.S. military is actively supporting the resumption of merchant shipping, and as a first step, two U.S.-flagged merchant ships have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and are sailing safely."
The announcement came amid heightened tensions in Middle Eastern waters. Earlier, an Iranian outlet reported that a U.S. Navy escort ship attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz was hit by two Iranian missiles in the Gulf of Oman and retreated. The U.S. military immediately denied the report.
Meanwhile, the United States on the day fully launched the "Liberation Project" operation to help ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz make a safe exit.
U.S. President Donald Trump has said the operation would also help third-country vessels exit the strait.
