Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 27th (local time) met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is leading cease-fire talks with the United States. At the meeting, Putin said he received a message last week from Iran's supreme leader, Khamenei.
According to Russia's RIA Novosti on the 27th (local time), President Putin and Minister Araghchi met in St. Petersburg that day and discussed the situation in the Middle East.
Putin said, "Russia will take all measures that align with the interests of Iran and regional countries to bring peace to the Middle East as soon as possible."
Putin said, "We see how bravely and heroically the Iranian people are fighting for independence and sovereignty," and noted, "We hope the time of trials will pass well and a time of peace will come."
He also said he had received a message from Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and wished Khamenei well.
Minister Araghchi said the strategic partnership between Russia and Iran will grow even stronger.
At the talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, and Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, were reported to have joined President Putin on the Russian side.
On the Iranian side, in addition to Minister Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Iran's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, were said to have been present.
