As the Iran war drags on and economic concerns grow, U.S. President Donald Trump's job approval has fallen to its lowest level since the start of his second term.
On the 20th (local time), a latest poll conducted by SurveyMonkey for NBC found that President Trump's job approval stood at 37%.
In particular, negative views of Trump's handling of the presidency reached 63%, with 50% saying they were very negative.
Trump was viewed as failing to respond properly on a range of issues. As many as 68% rated his response to inflation and the cost of living negatively, with 52% saying very negative.
Public opinion on the Iran war was also poor. Some 54% of respondents rated the response to the Iran war very negatively, and 13% said somewhat negative. Very positive and somewhat positive were just 19% and 14%, respectively.
About 61% of respondents said the United States should not take any further military action against Iran, while only 23% said all options, including deploying ground troops, should be considered.
NBC said the poll results clearly show the difficulties facing the ruling Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections in Nov. In fact, positive views among Republican supporters of the Trump administration's job performance were 83%, down 4 percentage points from the survey earlier this year.
However, among supporters of the "MAGA (Make America Great Again)" movement, 87% backed President Trump's handling of the Iran war.
The poll was conducted online from on the 30th of last month to on the 13th of this month among 32,433 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of ±1.8 percentage points.
