U.S. President Donald Trump on the 17th (local time) expressed appreciation for Iran's full opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while saying the maritime blockade of Iran would remain in place.
Trump wrote on Truth Social the same day, "Iran just announced it will fully open the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "Thank you!"
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared on X that, "Reflecting the Lebanon cease-fire situation, we will fully allow the passage of all merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz for the remainder of the cease-fire period."
However, about 20 minutes later, Trump wrote in a new post, "The Strait of Hormuz is fully open, but the maritime blockade measures will be maintained in full until the transaction between the United States and Iran is 100% completed."
He added, "This process will move very quickly because most issues have already been negotiated."
