U.S. President Donald Trump said the leaders of Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to hold talks on the 16th local time.
On the 15th, Trump said on Truth Social that "34 years have passed since the leaders of Israel and Lebanon last spoke," adding, "Talks between the two countries will be held tomorrow."
He added that the talks are intended to "create a little breathing room between Israel and Lebanon."
The same day, the New York Times (NYT) reported that Israel and Lebanon are discussing a plan to enter a short-term cease-fire for about a week as early as the 16th.
Earlier, the United States and Iran announced a two-week cease-fire on the 8th and have continued peace talks, but Israel has carried out airstrikes, saying "the Lebanon front is not included in the cease-fire."
On the same day, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "The goals of Israel and the United States are aligned," adding, "We are negotiating with Lebanon while conducting battles with Hezbollah."
Netanyahu said, "We are currently focusing on dismantling Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, a key Hezbollah stronghold," emphasizing, "We are preparing for any scenario, considering the possibility of a resumption of war."
