U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz had begun and said Iran is eager for a deal.
Trump told reporters at the White House on the 13th (local time) that the maritime blockade targeting Iran by the U.S. Navy began at exactly 10 a.m., and said, We have heard from the other side (Iran), and they are very eager for a deal.
At the meeting, Trump reiterated the existing negotiating principle that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. He said, We will get that dust (the enriched uranium Iran possesses) back, adding, We will either get it back from them, or we will take it.
Separately, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that 34 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on the 12th. He said it was the highest figure since Iran began a de facto blockade of the strait.
