Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hinted it could carry out military retaliation if the United States attempts a maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
On the 12th (local time), according to Sepah News, the Revolutionary Guard Navy said, "All vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is under the full control of Iran's military authorities," and added, "If the enemies miscalculate, the strait will become a vortex of death that will swallow them."
The Revolutionary Guard posted the message along with a video showing ships in its sights. The Guard's message came after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier that day, President Trump said on Truth Social, "The U.S. Navy will immediately begin blockade measures on every vessel entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz," and added, "I have ordered our Navy to locate on the high seas and intercept every vessel that has paid tolls to Iran."
