U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 12th (local time), "The U.S. Navy will immediately begin a blockade of all ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz."
Trump said on Truth Social that day, "Talks went well and most issues were agreed upon, but the only issue that really matters, the nuclear one, did not," adding the above.
He added, "Someday we will reach the stage of 'allowing all ships to enter and leave,' but Iran blocked it with a single phrase that only they know, 'There may be mines somewhere,'" and said, "This is extortion of the world, and national leaders, especially the United States, will never be extorted."
Trump also said, "I have ordered our Navy to locate on the high seas and block any ship that paid tolls to Iran," adding, "Anyone who paid illegal tolls will not be able to sail safely on the high seas."
