An Iranian official on the 1st (local time) rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that "Iran asked for a cease-fire," saying it was not true.
Esmaeil Baghaei, Spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, also said on state TV that "Trump's announcement is false and an unfounded claim."
Iran's state broadcaster also reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, "Iran has not even presented conditions for a cease-fire," and "the war will continue until the aggressors (the United States and Israel) are punished and full compensation is paid to Iran."
Foreign media outlets including CNN also reported, citing remarks by a senior Iranian official the same day, that President Trump's upcoming address to the nation on the Iran war is "not a reliable guide to judging the situation of what is happening now."
Earlier, President Trump posted on Truth Social, "The president of Iran's new regime just asked the United States for a cease-fire," adding, "We will consider it when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and secure."
