The U.S. Treasury has abruptly lifted sanctions on interim President Delcy Rodríguez of Venezuela.
According to a post by the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on the 1st (local time), the interim president Rodríguez's name has disappeared from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. It comes about three months after, following President Nicolás Maduro's ouster, the former vice president was elevated to interim president.
Interim President Rodríguez, along with Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and former defense minister Vladimir Padrino López, had been classified as a core figure of the regime and was subject to U.S. sanctions.
However, after the U.S. military repatriated Maduro in January, Rodríguez led the transitional government and communicated closely with the United States. She agreed to allow the sale of Venezuelan crude in the United States and eased various regulations to encourage Western corporations to invest in Venezuela.
In addition, Interim President Rodríguez actively cooperated with U.S. demands by releasing political prisoners who took part in the anti-government struggle and replacing Vladimir Padrino López, the pro-Maduro Minister of the Ministry of National Defense.
