Netflix's new original content "Monthly Boyfriend" is gaining worldwide popularity, but criticism has emerged that it is being watched illegally in China.
Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, said on the 17th on his Facebook account, "As 'Monthly Boyfriend' creates a sensation overseas, some Chinese netizens are stealing views."
On China's social media platform Douban, "Monthly Boyfriend" recorded a rating of 7.5 out of 10. So far, about 7,000 users have participated in the star ratings, and there are more than 3,500 posted reviews.
Seo said, "Considering that Netflix is not officially available in China, it appears that netizens watched it illegally."
He added, "Illegal viewing has become routine in China, and it is time for the Chinese authorities to step up," and "They must take measures to ensure this never happens again by intensively informing the public about the problems with their citizens' illegal acts."
