While a reporter was doing a live stand-up on a bear attack in the United States, an actual bear appeared behind the reporter.
On the 15th (local time), California regional broadcaster KTLA reported that a bear appeared at a filming site in Monrovia. Reporter Erin Myers, who was on the scene that day, was reporting on a bear attack that had occurred in the area.
Myers was walking along a sidewalk in a dwellings neighborhood where the incident occurred. A moment later, a massive black bear suddenly appeared behind the camera. But Myers kept her composure and said, "If you look now, it seemed like the bear was walking into the trap, but it's heading back out," calmly delivering the scene.
The moment the bear walked behind the reporter aired live. The bear reportedly wandered around and returned to the forest. California wildlife authorities were said to be investigating whether the bear on the broadcast was the same one involved in the attack.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the incident happened at 9:20 a.m. in the Oakglade dwellings neighborhood of Monrovia. A massive black bear reportedly appeared and clawed a woman who was walking her dog. Local police told the outlet, "The bear charged toward the woman and gave the back of her knee a tap," adding, "Her life is not in danger and the injury itself is not serious, but this incident is unusual."
California, which is estimated to be home to about 60,000 black bears, is considered the place in the United States with the most bears. It is common for bears to come down near dwellings neighborhoods, but it is said to be rare for bears to directly attack people.
The outlet speculated that, because of the massive wildfires last year, bears have begun showing aggression toward people. With habitats burned, bears have been flocking to dwellings areas in search of food and water, the analysis said.
