The U.S. military immediately denied Iran's claim that its forces had disabled the U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln operating in the Middle East.
Iranian military Spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi (brigadier general) said on the 14th (local time), "The U.S. Navy's largest warship, the Abraham Lincoln, which has plundered Muslims' resources and sown fear, has completely lost its operational capability in the face of the power of the great Islamic nation of Iran."
He added, "The Lincoln suffered a humiliating defeat that will go down in history and retreated, and this defeat is something history will remember forever." However, he did not mention the specific method or scale of the attack.
In response, U.S. Central Command, which oversees the Middle East, said on X on the same day, "The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps again claimed that they disabled the Abraham Lincoln," and countered, "The Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group continues to dominate Iranian airspace and territorial waters." It also posted a graphic with Shekarchi's photo labeled "Fact check – LIE."
Earlier, on the 1st, Iran's military also claimed it struck the Abraham Lincoln with four ballistic missiles, but the U.S. military immediately denied it.
