Since the United States began military operations against Iran, 140 U.S. troops have been injured, eight of them seriously.
According to the Washington Post (WP), U.S. Department of Defense Spokesperson Sean Parnell said on the 10th (local time), "Over 10 days of attacks since the start of the operation, more than 140 U.S. service members have been injured," adding, "Most of the injuries are minor, and 108 have returned to duty." He added, "The eight with serious injuries are receiving the highest level of medical support."
The Associated Press reported that this is the first time the U.S. Department of Defense has officially disclosed the number of U.S. casualties since the start of the Iran operation. The total number of U.S. service members confirmed dead so far is seven. On the 1st, Army Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, who had been critically wounded in Iran's attack on a U.S. base in Saudi Arabia, was recorded as the seventh fatality, and the remains of the six previously killed in action have been repatriated.
The scale of casualties was first reported exclusively by Reuters and was later confirmed by the Defense Department's official announcement. White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also said at a briefing, in response to related questions, "I cannot confirm the exact figure, but I understand the approximate scale is consistent (with the Defense Department's announcement)."
