The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. forces in the Middle East, said on the 1st (local time) on social media (SNS), "We cut off the snake's head with a large-scale U.S. airstrike yesterday," adding, "The United States possesses the most powerful military force on Earth, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps no longer has a headquarters."
Central Command on the day released a 23-second video showing a B-2 in flight, saying, "Last night, a U.S. B-2 stealth bomber armed with 2,000-pound (about 907-kilogram) bombs struck Iran's hardened ballistic missile facilities," and added, "No country should doubt America's resolve."
The B-2 is a long-range strategic bomber capable of reaching anywhere in the world in a single trip through aerial refueling, and carries the nickname "silent assassin." The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) quoted senior U.S. officials as saying B-2 bombers took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and successfully dropped bombs on their targets.
Central Command also unveiled more than 20 types of assets used in attacks on Iran so far, including the B-2. They included the LUCAS drone, known as a "suicide drone," Patriot air defense missiles, the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) ballistic missile defense system, F-18, F-16 and F-22 fighter jets, A-10 attack aircraft, F-35 stealth fighters, and A-10 attack aircraft.
Central Command also said the main targets of this operation were Iran's military command-and-control centers; the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Aerospace Force; integrated air defense systems; ballistic missile bases; naval vessels and submarines; anti-ship missile bases; and military communications systems.
The Israeli military also said it dealt a "powerful blow" to dozens of military command posts in Iran. It reportedly targeted the Revolutionary Guard, military intelligence agencies, the Air Force command center, and the domestic intelligence agency. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said airstrikes against Iran are intensifying and "will intensify further over the next few days."
