Iran also carried out a second day of retaliation on the 1st, local time, in response to airstrikes by the United States and Israel.
According to local media that day, Iran pressed ahead with airstrikes on the 1st as well, following the previous day, targeting airports hosting U.S. troops, including Arak.
AFP reported that several explosions were heard early Sunday near Erbil Airport in Iraq and black smoke billowed.
The previous day, U.S. forces shot down multiple missiles and drones over Erbil.
Around the same time in Dubai, several loud booms were also heard, Reuters reported, citing witnesses.
Israel also carried out a second straight day of airstrikes early that morning targeting Iran. In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said, "We are bombing western and central Iran and the targets number more than 30," adding, "We conducted additional strikes aimed at the ballistic missile facilities, missile launchers, military command centers, and air defenses held by Iran's terrorist regime."
