China and Russia, allies of Iran, on the 28th (local time) jointly criticized the United States and Israel for attacking Iran.
According to China's state-run CCTV, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, when asked about China's position on the U.S. and Israeli attacks that day, said, "China expresses deep concern over the U.S. and Israeli military attacks on Iran."
The Spokesperson said, "Iran's national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be respected," adding, "China urges an immediate halt to military actions, avoidance of further escalation of tensions, and the resumption of dialogue and negotiations to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East."
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, "The United States and Israel have once again embarked on a dangerous adventure," adding, "This is rapidly driving the region into a humanitarian, economic, and radiological catastrophe."
It went on to criticize, "Particularly concerning are the unstable attacks that the U.S. administration has carried out continuously and systematically in recent months in violation of the basic principles of the international legal order."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Akbar Salehi to share the situation and discuss response measures. Minister Lavrov said, "This attack violates the principles and norms of international law and completely disregards stability in the region and around the world."
Lavrov also urged an immediate halt to the attacks and a return to a political and diplomatic resolution, stressing that Russia is ready to mediate on the international stage, including at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The call between the two sides was made at Iran's request.
Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, harshly criticized, saying, "The United States used negotiations with Iran on (nuclear) issues as a pretext to justify military action," and "President Trump's true colors have been revealed."
