U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 28th (local time) that he "just began major combat operations in Iran," revealing that the United States has launched strikes against Iran. Following Israel's announcement the same day of a preemptive attack on Iran, the United States also moved with military action.
In an approximately 8-minute video posted on Truth Social, a social media platform, that day, President Trump said, "Our goal is to remove the imminent Iranian threat and protect the American people." He said, "Iran tried to rebuild its nuclear program," adding, "Iran must never have nuclear weapons."
Trump also said, "Iran is developing long-range missiles that threaten the United States and other countries," adding, "We will destroy their missiles and completely destroy the missile industry."
According to the Associated Press and Reuters, Israel's defense minister released a statement that day saying Israel carried out a preventive strike against Iran. Reuters, citing U.S. officials, reported that the United States is also conducting strikes against Iran and that attacks targeting Iran are underway from the sea and air.
