OpenAI, well known as the developer of the Generative AI ChatGPT, has secured new investment worth 160 trillion won.
On the 28th, OpenAI said it had finalized new funding totaling $110 billion (about 160 trillion won) from Amazon, SoftBank, and Nvidia.
Its valuation was assessed at $730 billion (about 1,000 trillion won) on a pre-money basis (valuation before fundraising). This is 1.5 times higher than the $500 billion valuation recognized in Oct. last year.
Specifically, Amazon invested $50 billion (about 72 trillion won), SoftBank Group invested $30 billion (43 trillion won), and Nvidia invested $30 billion.
All of these investors are strategic investors (SI), and OpenAI, in particular, will jointly develop custom AI models that Amazon developers can use in Amazon applications (apps).
Amazon has invested in Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI, from the early stages, but with this investment in OpenAI, it has also built a close cooperative framework with OpenAI.
Microsoft (MS), which had been OpenAI's largest investor, said that its relationship with OpenAI would remain solid even after this large-scale fundraising that brought in competitors such as Amazon as investors.
In a joint statement released that day, OpenAI and Microsoft said, "Nothing announced today changes the terms of the relationship between Microsoft and OpenAI."
