As the third nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 26th local time with Oman mediating, ended, Iran said it had "made significant progress."
According to IRNA, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with reporters after the talks and said, "We have begun to seriously review elements of agreement in all institutional sectors, including nuclear and sanctions."
Minister Araghchi said, "Of course it's natural that there are differences in views, but compared with the transfer, both sides have added seriousness about finding solutions through negotiations," adding, "There was good progress."
He added, "Starting Monday next week (Mar. 2), Austria and the IAEA will begin reviews tailored to the two sides' demands," and said, "The talks will probably reopen within a week." Vienna, named as the venue for the follow-up talks, is home to the IAEA headquarters.
On this day, Iran was represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while on the U.S. side, Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's eldest son-in-law Jared Kushner served as delegates.
According to Al Jazeera, citing a senior Iranian official, Iran proposed a "temporary freeze" of uranium enrichment to the United States that day. It also covered lowering the enrichment level of uranium stockpiles under IAEA supervision and achieving mutual benefits in economic aspects.
However, the official emphasized, "There was absolutely nothing included regarding missile systems or defense industry programs," adding, "We also totally reject permanent suspension of enrichment, dismantlement of nuclear facilities, or the transfer of uranium stockpiles."
The United States was reportedly armed with a hard-line demand at the talks that day to dismantle all three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan—and hand over all remaining enriched uranium to the United States.
