China has decided to impose up to 11.7% tariff on European Union (EU) dairy products.

China's Ministry of Commerce said this on the 12th as it released on its website the results of a countervailing investigation into EU dairy products. The ministry said EU dairy subsidies caused material injury to China's related industry and that a causal link is established between the subsidies and the material injury. The applicable rate is 7.4%–11.7%, and it will be imposed for five years starting on the 13th.

The ministry launched a countervailing investigation into EU dairy products on Aug. 21, 2024, and the following August extended the investigation period to Feb. 21 this year, citing "the complex circumstances of the case."

In December, it also announced provisional countervailing duty rates of 28.6% for other EU corporations that cooperated with the investigation and 42.7% for other EU corporations that did not cooperate.
