U.S. President Donald Trump said an agreement under negotiation with Denmark over Greenland "seems to have gone well."
According to the White House YouTube channel, on the 31st of last month (local time), President Trump met reporters aboard Air Force One, his official aircraft, and said about the Greenland issue, "We have started negotiations," adding, "I think it will be a very important agreement that is good for everyone."
Trump said, "It seems the agreement has gone well," and "I think it will be a good transaction for everyone." He also said, "From a national security standpoint, it is a really important transaction. I think we can reach an agreement on that part."
Trump did not explain specifically what kind of agreement would be reached. Recently, the United States and Denmark began high-level working-level talks to resolve the Greenland dispute.
Meanwhile, Trump sent a warning message about Canada drawing closer to China. Recently, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited China, held a summit with President Xi Jinping, and the two countries agreed to form a strategic partnership.
Regarding this, Trump said, "We do not want China to take control of Canada," adding, "If they (Canada) make an agreement with China, we will do something very serious."
As for Kevin Warsh, the nominee he named as the next chair of the Federal Reserve (Fed), Trump said he is a "high-class figure" and that there should be no problem winning Senate confirmation.
Asked what he expects Warsh to do regarding interest rates, Trump said, "He will lower them," adding, "I saw his interviews and remarks, and I hope he will cut rates. But he should do what he wants."
