Wall Street dips as indexes slip while chip stocks climb on memory shortage

The three major indexes on the New York stock market ended lower.

On the 16th (local time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 83.11 points, or 0.17%, from the previous session to close at 49,359.33.

The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 fell 4.46 points, or 0.06%, to 6,940.01, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 14.63 points, or 0.06%, to 23,515.39.

However, chip stocks extended gains on a memory semiconductor shortage. Micron Technology overtook even Palantir and Netflix to enter the top 20 by market capitalization.
