New York stocks opened mixed on the 7th local time.
As of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), centered on blue chips, rose 132.23 points, or 0.27%, to 49,594.31 from the previous close. At the same time, the Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 index, focused on large-cap stocks, was up 0.47 point, or 0.01%, at 6,945.29 in trading, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq index fell 22.98 points, or 0.10%, to 23,524.19.
The market expects that weekly initial jobless claims to be released this week and nonfarm payrolls will increase by 57,000, slowing from November's 64,000. The unemployment rate is estimated at 4.5%.
In this context, Reuters said investors "took a breather after the previous session's artificial intelligence (AI)-led rally," noting there was "a mood of waiting for the labor market report to be released later in the day."
