Ukrainian authorities said on the 5th (local time) that a Russian airstrike on a hospital in central Kyiv in the morning killed one inpatient and injured four.
According to AFP and the Kyiv Post and other foreign media, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a private hospital in the Obolon district of Kyiv was hit, killing a man in his 30s who was receiving inpatient treatment, and that two of the four injured were in serious condition.
The injured included a 42-year-old woman who was receiving treatment and 77- and 97-year-old elderly women who were hospitalized. Of the 26 inpatients, 16 were transferred to other hospitals in Kyiv.
President Zelensky said on X (formerly Twitter) on the 5th that casualties resulted from the hospital strike, noting, "It is important that our partners do not forget. Funding for air defense and interceptor drone production, and equipment for the energy institutional sector, are needed every day," adding, "This week we will work with our European and U.S. partners to secure the help Ukraine needs."
The strike came ahead of a meeting of military chiefs in Paris, France, on the day, and the "Coalition of Will" summit on the 6th. Major Western countries are expected to focus on Ukraine's end-of-war plan and postwar security guarantees in back-to-back meetings.
Meanwhile, Fastiv in Kyiv Oblast was also hit, destroying about 10 dwellings, cars and warehouses, and killing a man in his 70s.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that overnight on the 4th–5th, Russia struck various parts of Kyiv with 165 drones, including 100 Shahed drones, as well as nine Iskander-M missiles and S-300 surface-to-air missiles. Some were shot down or neutralized, but several missiles and 26 drones hit 10 regions.
Regarding this, the Ministry of National Defense of Russia said it carried out airstrikes over the past day on 148 targets, including Ukrainian military airfields, the defense industry and facilities related to drone production, and training grounds for drone pilots, according to TASS.
