U.S. President Donald Trump on the 3rd (local time) released a photo of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was arrested in a Venezuelan military operation and is being transported under guard.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that day, "Nicolás Maduro aboard the USS Iwo Jima," and posted his photo. In the photo, President Maduro's eyes are covered and he is in handcuffs. He is holding a bottle of water in his right hand, and has headphones over his ears.
President Maduro is wearing a gray tracksuit with the Nike logo, and, according to CNN, U.S. forces dragged the president and his wife out of their bedroom in the middle of the night while they were sleeping.
Earlier, the United States conducted a surprise airstrike on Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and captured President Maduro and his wife. President Trump said the couple is being transported to New York aboard a U.S. Navy vessel.
Indicted in the United States on narcoterrorism charges, President Maduro and his wife are expected to appear in a U.S. court soon. The Trump administration has labeled the Maduro regime the force behind a Western Hemisphere drug cartel and a foreign terrorist organization, and has continued military pressure against Venezuela.
