The New York stock market opened lower on the 30th (local time) ahead of the release of the Federal Reserve's minutes from the December Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.
On the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), as of 10:35 a.m., the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 121.20 points, or 0.25%, to 48,340.73 from the previous session. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 lost 10.58 points, or 0.15%, to 6,895.16, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 42.96 points, or 0.18%, to 23,431.39.
The market is waiting for the Fed's release of the FOMC December minutes this afternoon. At that time, 9 FOMC Commissioners supported a 25bp rate cut and 3 opposed it. The FOMC minutes to be released today are seen as an indicator for gauging the direction of next year's stock market.
