U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the United States' role in the Thailand-Cambodia cease-fire deal and publicly criticized the United Nations for being powerless.
On the 28th (local time), President Trump said on his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "I am pleased to share that clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have been temporarily halted, and that both countries can return to peaceful daily life under the treaty they recently agreed to." He added, "I congratulate the judgment of the leaders of both countries, who led a swift and fair resolution," and said, "This decision was made decisively and quickly."
Trump also said, "As always, the United States is proud to have contributed to resolving this situation," and argued, "Looking back on the many wars and conflicts I directly mediated and ended over the past 11 months, perhaps the United States has played the role of the United Nations in the truest sense." He criticized the United Nations, saying, "The United Nations has provided little practical help in any conflict, including the Russia-Ukraine war," and added, "It is time to take a more active role for world peace."
Since taking office, Trump has claimed to have resolved a total of eight international conflicts. The conflicts he mentioned are as follows. ▲ Israel-Hamas war ▲ Thailand-Cambodia border clashes ▲ Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict ▲ Rwanda-Democratic Republic of the Congo peace agreement ▲ Kashmir cease-fire ▲ Israel-Iran conflict ▲ Egypt-Ethiopia conflict ▲ Serbia-Kosovo conflict
Among them, Thailand and Cambodia resumed armed clashes in the border area on the 7th and entered a cease-fire on the 27th, the 20th day of fighting.
