A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off Taiwan. At TSMC, the world's largest foundry (contract chipmaker), workers at one point evacuated outdoors.
On the 28th, the Korea meteorological Administration said, citing the Ministry of Transportation's Central Weather Administration, that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred at 12:05:55 a.m. in waters 34 kilometers east of Yilan County, Taiwan.
The epicenter was at 24.69 degrees north latitude and 122.08 degrees east longitude, and the depth was 73 kilometers. Local media including the United Daily News reported that it was "strong enough to be felt across all of Taiwan, including the capital Taipei."
The earthquake affected the Dong'ao substation in Yilan County, causing a temporary power outage for 3,456 households in nearby areas. Other than that, no additional damage has been confirmed so far.
At TSMC in Taiwan, people also evacuated outdoors for safety. TSMC said, "For safety, personnel temporarily evacuated outdoors, but all facilities' safety systems are operating normally."
