A commander who organized the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) and fought on Ukraine's side against Russian forces has died.
The RVC said on its Telegram channel on the 27th that Denis Kapustin, 41, the RVC's founder and commander, died on the front in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
The RVC said, "Kapustin was hit by a first-person-view (FPV) drone attack by Russian forces," adding, "We will surely avenge you, and your legacy will endure."
Kapustin, a far-right activist known by the alias "White Rex," organized the RVC in Aug. 2022, saying he would overthrow Russian President Vladimir Putin's system.
He moved to Germany in 2001 and became immersed in neo-Nazi skinhead culture, and was said to have taken up armed struggle, rejecting the multiethnic turn of Russia brought on by the invasion of Ukraine.
In fact, the RVC led incursions across the Ukrainian border into Russia's frontier regions in 2023 and 2024. It was also reportedly involved in an attempt to blow up Russian energy facilities and in an attack on the border region of Bryansk.
Russian authorities have classified Kapustin as an enemy of the state and a top-tier terrorist and have pursued punishment.
