Ukraine attacked Russian energy facilities on Dec. 25, Christmas Day.
According to Reuters and others, Ukraine's General Staff said it struck the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia's Rostov region with Storm Shadow cruise missiles supplied by the United Kingdom.
Ukraine's General Staff described the facility as "one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia and a site that supplies diesel and aviation fuel to Russian forces fighting in Ukraine," adding that "there were multiple explosions after the strike."
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced it struck oil product storage tanks in the Russian port city of Temryuk and the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant in southwestern Russia with long-range drones. In particular, the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant is known as one of the largest facilities in the world.
As U.S.-led armistice talks between Russia and Ukraine are underway, both countries are continuing attacks and counterattacks to secure more favorable terms for ending the war.
