Ahead of Christmas, a winner has emerged in the United States for a lottery worth 2.6 trillion won.
According to Reuters and others on Dec. 24, a first-prize winner has been drawn in the U.S. Powerball lottery who will receive $1.8 billion (about 2.6 trillion won). The winner reportedly bought the ticket in Arkansas.
Powerball had no first-prize winner for 46 consecutive drawings, pushing the jackpot into the 2 trillion won range. The largest Powerball jackpot on record was $2.04 billion in 2022, and this is the second largest.
To win the Powerball jackpot, all six numbers must match: five from the "white balls" numbered 1–69 and one from the "red Powerball" numbered 1–26. The chance of winning with a single ticket is 1 in 292.2 million.
The winner can receive the prize in installments over 29 years, or take a lump sum of $834.9 million before taxes.
