U.S. President Donald Trump on the 23rd (local time) claimed that the U.S. third-quarter economic growth rate hitting a record high of 4.3% in two years was "thanks to the tariff." Right after the release of the growth figures, Trump tied his tariff policy to the results and mentioned the Supreme Court.
Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social that "the just-released great U.S. economic numbers are thanks to the tariff," adding, "U.S. economic numbers will only get better." He went on, "There is no inflation, and national security is excellent," and "Let's pray for the U.S. Supreme Court."
With lawsuits challenging the illegality of country-by-country reciprocal tariff measures introduced by Trump pending before the federal Supreme Court, some read his words as pressure on the Court.
The U.S. Department of Commerce said on the 23rd (local time) that third-quarter gross domestic product growth rate was tallied at an annualized 4.3% from the previous quarter. It was a record high in two years since the third quarter of 2023 and beat the 3.2% forecast compiled by Dow Jones.
