The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is taking steps that would effectively ban medical procedures for gender transition for minors.
According to the Associated Press on the 18th, the Department of Health and Human Services said it would cut off federal funding to hospitals that provide pediatric gender transition services to minors, including puberty blockers and surgical interventions.
Gender transition services are medical procedures that change sex through surgeries and hormone suppression, and they are currently legal in some states.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that cut off federal funding for medical services such as hormone therapy that support gender transition for minors, and banned transgender athletes from competing in women's sports.
In fact, when a transgender woman won the California high school track and field championships in June, President Trump also threatened to impose hefty fines.
Meanwhile, a bill that would punish doctors who perform gender-confirming care with imprisonment or fines passed the House of Representatives on the 17th under Republican leadership.
