Palestinian WAFA news agency said on the 17th (local time) that the Israeli military misfired mortars into Gaza City, a densely populated area in northern Gaza, wounding several civilians.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Qatar-based Al Jazeera, citing local medical sources, reported that 11 people were injured.
Israel said it was a mortar misfire, not a drone strike. During mortar training by Israeli reservists on the outskirts of Gaza, the rounds landed about 4 kilometers away from the intended point, falling across the "yellow line" set by the cease-fire agreement into an area controlled by the Palestinian militant faction Hamas.
The Israeli military said it is investigating the exact circumstances.
Israel and Hamas entered the first phase of a cease-fire on Oct. 10 under U.S. President Donald Trump's "Gaza peace plan," but sporadic airstrikes and clashes have continued since.
