A listing is drawing attention for offering an entire large castle in Scotland, the United Kingdom, for about 1.3 billion won, roughly the average sale price of an apartment in Seoul.
According to the U.K.'s Daily Mail on the 14th (local time), "Kinloch Castle" on the Isle of Rum in Scotland has been put on the market for £700,000 (about 1.3 billion won), comparable to the price of a studio apartment in London.
As of Oct. 2025, the asking price is similar to the average apartment price in Seoul (Korea Real Estate Board (REB) standard) and falls within the top 10% of dwellings values in Korea. By contrast, the same amount would only secure a small studio apartment with one room and one bathroom in central London.
The listed castle is a grand residence on a site of about 9,300 pyeong (30,000 square meters), with 20 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and seven living rooms. Inside are a ballroom, a library, and a billiards room, and artworks from the 19th century and collections from around the world have been preserved to this day.
However, the low price relative to its imposing scale reflects the burden of substantial after-expense. A local real estate agent said that restoring the building for residential or lodging use would require at least £10 million (about 19.7 billion won). The Isle of Rum is also cited as having a major drawback in that it is not connected to the mainland by road, making it accessible only by boat.
