American opera singer Jubilant Sykes was found dead at his home.
According to U.S. outlet NBC and other local media on the 10th, Sykes was found stabbed to death at his home in Santa Monica, California, on the morning of the 8th (local time).
At the time, police received a report that an assault was taking place at Sykes' home and found Sykes collapsed with severe stab wounds, according to reports.
Sykes was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Micah Sykes, was arrested at the scene as a suspect in the killing.
According to NBC, police said, "The son was taken into custody at the residence without significant resistance," and added, "He is expected to be charged with murder, and the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles (LA) County District Attorney's Office."
Sykes, a native of LA, sang as a soprano from childhood and, after choosing the path of an opera singer in college, performed on renowned stages including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
In 2009, he took part in the recording of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass," earning a nomination for the Grammy Award for best classical album. He also collaborated with leading orchestras, including the LA Philharmonic.
Meanwhile, details such as the son's motive remain unknown.
