As the United States continues discussions to end the war in Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed disappointment with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On the 7th (local time), President Trump, asked by reporters at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., "What is the next step in negotiations with Russia and Ukraine?" said, "We have been talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and we have been talking with Ukrainian leaders, including President Zelenskyy."
He added, "It is a bit disappointing that President Zelenskyy had not read the proposal even a few hours ago." Here, the "proposal" is understood to be the latest cease-fire proposal the United States presented to Ukraine, but the details have not been disclosed.
Until the day before, delegations from both countries, including U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov of Ukraine, held talks in Florida, but no clear agreement was reached. Trump is seen as having expressed his disappointment in response.
Trump said, "Russia seems satisfied with it (the U.S. proposal)," adding, "But it is not certain whether Zelenskyy is satisfied with it." However, Zelenskyy earlier said he had spoken with the U.S. delegation, noting that "we agreed on the next steps and format for talks with the United States."
