Eight prints by Henri Matisse were reported stolen from a library in São Paulo, Brazil.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on the 7th local time, two armed men broke into the library that day, stole Matisse's works and fled. Five works by Candido Portinari, a leading Brazilian painter, were also confirmed missing.
The incident took place at Mário de Andrade, the largest public library in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, which was hosting a contemporary art exhibition in collaboration with the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition was reportedly scheduled to end that day.
São Paulo police are tracking the suspects based on the library's closed-circuit (CC) TV footage, and city authorities did not disclose the value of the stolen works.
The incident came about two months after a jewel theft at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. On Oct. 10, a four-person gang broke into the Louvre and eight jewels worth about 150 billion won were stolen.
