The White House said a plan the Donald Trump administration has discussed with Russia to end the war in Ukraine was also shared with and discussed by the Ukrainian side.
On the 20th, Karoline Leavitt, White House Spokesperson, said at a briefing, "Steve Witkoff, the Middle East envoy, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian officials last week and discussed this very plan."
Spokesperson Leavitt said, "Envoy Witkoff and Secretary Rubio have been working quietly on the plan for the past month," adding, "They have engaged equally with both Russia and Ukraine to identify what each side can accept."
She went on, "Because the plan is in progress and fluid, we cannot litigate the details, but the president supports it," adding, "It is a good plan for both Russia and Ukraine, and we believe both sides can accept it."
Earlier, the British daily Financial Times (FT) reported that a cease-fire proposal containing extensive Ukrainian concessions had emerged. The U.S. outlet Axios also reported that the Trump administration has been discussing a new peace plan with 28 items.
The plan is said to be divided into four categories: ▲ Ukraine's peace framework ▲ security guarantees ▲ Europe's security ▲ blueprints for future relations among the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
Spokesperson Leavitt said, "I am aware that Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met today with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy," and added, "We spoke with Driscoll, and he was very optimistic after the talks," stressing, "We are having good conversations with both sides to end the war."
