As the United States and China clash again over rare earths and the tariff issue, a Chinese state-run outlet criticized Washington, saying the responsibility lies with the U.S., which continued sanctions against China even after the Madrid talks.
The state-run Global Times said in a commentary on the 13th that "threatening with high tariff is not the right way to get along with China." Earlier, China's Ministry of Commerce said the previous day regarding China's export controls on rare earths and the U.S. imposition of an additional 100% tariff, "export controls are a legitimate measure," and "we do not seek a fight, but we are not afraid of one; if the United States insists on its course, China will also take firm reciprocal measures."
The commentary said, "The United States, citing retaliation for China's move to tighten rare-earth export rules, is threatening to impose a 100% tariff starting next month and is preparing export controls on key software," adding, "the U.S. side is continuously disrupting and undermining normal trade order, seriously harming China's interests."
It continued, "Roughly 20 days after the September Madrid trade talks, the U.S. side kept announcing additional restrictions on China. The responsibility for the current difficulties in China-U.S. trade lies entirely with the U.S. side." It added, "If the United States says it seeks dialogue but keeps tightening (sanctions) measures and uses trade bullying tactics, it will deepen the lack of mutual trust, and China will not accept any form of coercion."
