U.S. President Donald Trump, in his U.N. General Assembly speech, again stressed a hard-line stance on illegal immigration and urged European countries to adopt strong border controls.
In a speech at U.N. headquarters in New York on the 23rd (local time), President Trump said, "If you enter the United States illegally, you will go to jail, be returned to your home country, or perhaps be sent somewhere even farther." He said, "Our message is simple," and rated the Trump administration's hard-line immigration policies as successful.
He said, "The United States has declared once again that it belongs to the American people," and emphasized, "Every nation should set the same principle to protect its own citizens." He went on to say, "Europe has fallen into serious trouble due to an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants," and criticized that "clinging to political correctness and doing nothing is unsustainable."
President Trump argued, "If immigrants break the law or make false claims of asylum or refugee status, most should be returned to their home countries immediately." He also urged leaders of each country to adopt hard-line immigration policies, saying, "You have the right to control your borders, just like the United States."
He added, "Eight months after the launch of the administration, the United States has become the world's most 'hot' country," and said, "This is America's golden age, with the strongest economy, borders, and military."
