Flight attendants at AirAsia, a Malaysian low-cost carrier, recently put on a dance performance during a flight. Reactions ranged from praise as a fresh marketing strategy to criticism that it may show a lack of attention to flight safety.
A one-minute video showing AirAsia flight attendants dancing in the cabin on the Bangkok Don Mueang–Phuket route in Thailand was recently posted to an account on the social media platform TikTok. It drew more than 40,000 "likes" and about 400 comments. As of the 17th, views stood at about 910,000.
The performance was set to "Tick-Tock," the debut single by Vera, a female idol group introduced by AirAsia in March this year. AirAsia is said to have staged the performance, created with an on-time operations concept, after other in-flight services ended to strengthen its brand image.
AirAsia's official account left the word "Tick-Tock" in the comments on the video, and a flight attendant who appeared in the video also hit "like."
Online reactions were split. Negative responses included "Isn't helping ensure safe operations your main job?" and "It's uncomfortable to watch. It disrupts rest," while positive feedback called it "a fresh marketing method."
