The British Navy held a maritime airpower demonstration event in Geoje. The HMS Prince of Wales, showcased at this event, is a super-large aircraft carrier capable of accommodating approximately 1,600 crew members, with a maximum range of up to 500 miles per day.
According to the British Embassy in Korea on the 8th, this demonstration event was conducted as part of the UK's global deployment operation, 'Operation Highmast.' This global operation involves the British military deploying for eight months to secure readiness and deterrence, with 13 partner countries, including Korea, participating by sending vessels and personnel.
After the guest invitation event, the two countries conducted a Korea-UK joint training exercise, during which three naval vessels from each country collaborated to enhance their joint operational capabilities.
Colin Crooks, the British Ambassador to Korea, noted that 'the visit of the UK carrier strike group demonstrates the UK's strong commitment to the Indo-Pacific' and emphasized that 'we will work together for a prosperous future with our reliable partner, Korea.'
Earlier in 2023, Korea marked the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations by declaring a 'global strategic partnership' with the UK.
