U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 5th (local time) regarding the U.S. authorities' large-scale immigration enforcement at the construction site of the joint battery plant of Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution in Savannah, Georgia, "In my opinion, they were illegal aliens, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) did their job."
During a Q&A session with reporters at the White House on the same day, Trump responded to related questions by saying, "I only heard about that incident just before the (immigration enforcement's) press conference."
He added, "But I don't know anything about that incident that just happened."
Regarding Hyundai Motor Group, which is the subject of the search this time and previously announced a large-scale investment plan in the U.S., he said, "They have the right to sell cars or goods in Korea. As you know, this is not a one-sided deal."
In response to concerns that the policy goals of immigration enforcement and revitalizing manufacturing are in conflict, President Trump said, "We want to get along well with other countries and we want a great and stable workforce."
