The first prize of the U.S. Powerball lottery soared to $1.7 billion (approximately 2.364 trillion won). This is the result of no winners for 14 weeks since May, leading to 41 consecutive rollovers.
According to local media, including CNN, the winning numbers drawn on the 3rd (local time) were 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, and the Powerball number was 22, but there were no winners who matched all of them. The Powerball drawing is held three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and if there is no first prize winner, the prize money rolls over.
The next drawing will take place on the night of the 6th. If a winner chooses to receive the prize in annuity, they can receive the full $1.7 billion over a period of 29 years in 30 installments. If they choose a lump sum, they will receive approximately $770 million (about 1.709 trillion won) before taxes.
The lottery ticket costs only $2 (about 2,800 won), but the odds of winning the first prize are only 1 in 292.2 million. The current total is the third largest in U.S. lottery history, following the $20.4 billion (about 28.366 trillion won) in 2022 and the $17.65 billion (about 24.542 trillion won) in October 2023, making this the third highest ever.
Powerball is sold in 45 states in the mainland U.S., Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
