Kim Jong Un, the Chairperson of North Korea's State Affairs Commission, is expected to arrive in Beijing around 4 p.m. local time on the 2nd for a visit to China, his first in over six years, to attend the 80th anniversary celebration of China's victory on the 3rd.
According to the Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the (North) Korean Workers' Party, Kim departed from Pyongyang in the afternoon on a special train and crossed the border into the Chinese city of Dandong in Liaoning Province early that morning. Afterward, the train was spotted in Shenyang around 7 a.m., according to Japan's JNN.
The distance from Shenyang to Beijing is about 600 to 700 kilometers, and considering the operational speed of Kim's special train, it is anticipated that he will arrive at Beijing Station around 4 p.m.
In preparation for this, the official reservation system operated by the China Railway Corporation, 'China Railway 12306', has suspended some train services from Dandong to Beijing on the 1st and 2nd. Nearby hotels have prohibited foreign guests, and a sign stating 'No parking on September 2nd' has been posted around Beijing Station.
On that morning, several areas near Beijing Station were under control. The nearby ramparts, which overlook the train platforms at Beijing Station, will restrict access to visitors from noon to 6 p.m. The square in front of Beijing Station has been surrounded by a 2-meter-high fence, and it is reported that accommodations and convenience stores adjoining Beijing Station have also closed their doors.
