A video capturing an adult man snatching a player's gift intended for a young fan during the US Open tennis match held in New York has sparked controversy.
According to the New York Post on the 29th (local time), Polish tennis star Kamil Majchrzak, 29, achieved a commanding victory against Russian Karen Khachanov in the second round of the men's singles held the previous day at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. After the match, Majchrzak approached the stands to greet fans and signed autographs, during which he handed his cap to a boy.
However, at that moment, a man next to the boy was seen on live broadcast snatching the cap from the boy's hands and putting it into his wife's bag. The boy protested, saying, 'What are you doing?' but the man ignored him and handed his water bottle to Majchrzak to get an autograph.
Once this scene aired, criticism poured in from netizens around the world. On online communities, comments such as 'The adult who stole the child's gift should be banned from attending sports events,' 'As an adult, you should rather give the souvenir to the child,' and 'The US Open should impose a permanent ban' continued.
Majchrzak, who realized the situation belatedly, shared a photo of the boy who lost the cap on his Instagram after the match, stating, 'I did not know that the cap was not delivered to the boy. Please help me find the boy.'
Meanwhile, netizens began to identify the man who took the cap. He is reported to be the CEO of a cobblestone company operating in Poland. During this process, some personal information about his family was leaked online.
Netizens are reacting with comments such as 'It's brazen for a person running a big company to steal a child's cap,' 'Even if he is a CEO, he must take responsibility,' and 'He should immediately apologize and return the cap.'
