In India, a monkey stole a cash bag and fled, scattering banknotes from a tree. The village was thrown into chaos in an instant.
On the 27th (local time), The Times of India reported that on the 26th, a monkey stole a cash bag and scattered banknotes in front of the Biduna Tehsil office in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh.
The monkey reportedly stole the cash bag from a customer who had visited the office for a land contract. It snatched the bag and fled while the customer and attorney briefly turned away to organize documents. The bag contained 80,000 rupees (about 1.3 million won).
Afterward, the monkey climbed to the top of the tree and began throwing 500 rupee banknotes. Some of the notes got caught in the tree, while others were torn.
Videos surfaced on social media showing residents rushing to pick up the cash as the banknotes thrown by the monkey poured down. Some even climbed onto tin roofs to grab more money.
In the end, the victim recovered only 52,000 rupees out of the 80,000 rupees. The remaining 28,000 rupees were taken by residents or damaged and disappeared.
Indian internet users reacted by saying, "There are honest people, but there are also those who are just opportunistic," and, "There couldn't be a better situation than this."
Residents in the area voiced their complaints, stating that they have long suffered from inconveniences caused by the monkeys. One resident lamented, "You can't even eat comfortably here. If you let your guard down for just a moment, the monkey rushes in to snatch your belongings or attack you."
