A well-known internist from Harvard University claimed that discontinuing sugar intake leads to positive changes in the body.
According to the British Daily Mail on the 21st (local time), Dr. Sourabh Setty recently revealed the changes he experienced after cutting out sugar for two weeks in a video posted on his TikTok account.
He noted, "If you stop consuming sugar, your round face is likely to change to a natural appearance," adding, "The swelling around the eyes disappears, and the fat in the liver decreases, leading to a reduction in belly fat."
He also explained that cutting out sugar can help restore healthy intestinal microorganisms, which play a crucial role in breaking down food and absorbing nutrients in the digestive tract.
In particular, Dr. Setty stated, "Skin issues such as acne and red spots will improve, making the skin appear clearer."
The correlation between sugar and skin has also been demonstrated through previous research. A study conducted in 2019 involving more than 8,000 students in China revealed that high-sugar soft drinks significantly increase the risk of acne. Another study found that excessive sugar intake can lead to fatty liver and inflammation in the body.
Various experts agree that reducing sugar intake can enhance health, fitness, and even performance at work.
Dr. Samantha Coogan from the University of Nevada said, "Cutting out sweet foods may initially lead to temporary withdrawal symptoms like headaches, abdominal pain, and bowel irregularities," but added that "thereafter, improvements in hair, skin, and nail conditions, better sleep quality, and weight loss effects occur."
Additionally, she noted that reducing sugar intake lowers the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, advising that "for some people, sugar can be addictive, so it is advisable to quit it in a manner similar to the cessation of drugs or alcohol."
